Columbia Collision Repairs in Surrey, BC

Frequently Asked Questions

The certified technicians at Columbia Collision auto body repairs have been expertly handling repairs of all kinds for more than 40 years. Below are some frequently asked questions about how the process will go when you bring your automobile in for a repair.

How long is the warranty on collision repairs?

At our shop, your auto body repairs are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle. We stand by our work and keep all repairs up to industry standard to ensure your satisfaction. Your guarantee will stay in place as long as you remain the registered owner of the vehicle.

Do I need to make an appointment for a collision repair estimate?

It is always a good idea to call us first so that we can best accommodate your needs concerning your auto body repair. We do not require an appointment for an estimate, though. When you have an accident, come to Columbia Collision Repairs Ltd and we will assess your repairs as quickly as we can.

Will you inform me of the repairs being done on my vehicle before you start them?

We will be explicit about the cost and nature of your repairs during your estimate, and if you need more specific timing, be sure to note with the administration desk that you’d like a notification. During your estimate, you’ll also be given an approximate length of time for your repairs.

How does the payment process work if a third party is paying for my collision repairs?

If someone besides your insurance company is paying for your repairs, the arrangement will need to be set up ahead of time. We can handle that arrangement, but be aware that there are no protections in place if said private party backs out of the payment at the last minute. If this happens, you will be responsible for the cost of repairs.

How long can I expect my vehicle to be at your shop for repairs?

There is no one answer to this question that encompasses all types of auto body repairs. When you first bring your car in to be assessed, you’ll receive an estimate that will include an approximation of the timing of the repairs. We understand that you need your vehicle back as soon as possible, and while we ensure the utmost care and expertise in our repairs, we will also do them as quickly as we can.

What happens if additional damage is found after the estimate?

In the event additional damage is discovered after the initial repairs are started, you will be notified with an estimate of what the new repairs will cost and how long they’ll take. While we still want to complete your service as quickly as possible, we won’t perform any additional repairs without your consent.

What is the difference between genuine, OEM, and aftermarket parts?

These are terms you may hear often where talk of auto body repairs are concerned. When speaking of a “genuine” part, the distinction is that the part is genuine to the manufacturer that made the part and it’s in the manufacturer’s original packaging.

“OEM” stands for “original equipment manufacturer.” This means that the part was made for that vehicle and is designated with the specifications of the manufacturer. However, the part may have been made by an external company.

“Aftermarket” refers to parts that were made by a completely different manufacturer. They might have close to the same specifications of the manufacturer or could be near perfect. These are parts that are often customized or cost less than the manufacturer but come with the risk that they won’t work as well as original or genuine parts. Aftermarket parts often void any warranty from the original manufacturer.

How long will repairs take?

This depends on the type of repairs your vehicle needs. You’ll receive an approximate length of time with your estimate when you first bring your car in to be assessed.

Do you work with insurance companies?

Yes, we work with almost every insurance company in British Columbia and some out-of-province carriers. We are part of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) as an Express Valet Shop and we are fully accredited with the ICBC Valet shop. We will work with your insurance company to get your auto body repairs approved and then bill the insurance company directly. All you’ll have to do is communicate your insurance information.

Can you match the paint color?

Yes, we can! We will always provide a flawless look for your collision repair and make sure your paint job is matched to the rest of the vehicle. At Columbia Collision, our expert technicians use a downdraft spray booth to give your paint a smooth look all around.

Will genuine OEM parts be used?

Yes, we will always use genuine parts to complete your repairs. In order to guarantee our work, we have to use the right parts. That means we use genuine OEM parts for every repair.
